“Same-visit” provision of contraception means providing immediate access to contraceptive methods and not requiring clients to return for a separate appointment on another day or even later the same day to initiate contraception. CDC and ACOG agree that clinicians can provide the client’s method of choice in a single visit, unless additional testing is medically indicated. Patients have higher satisfaction rates when they can access the birth control of their choice in one visit. Challenges related to child care, transportation, and taking additional time off work all make it difficult for patients to make multiple visits to obtain their choice of contraception.
